In honor of Lorraine Hansberry’s 86th birthday, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has declared today “Lorraine Hansberry Day.” Most famous for writing the play “A Raisin in the Sun,” the Chicago native died at 34.
A Raisin in the Sun premiered on Broadway and later became a movie. You can read our first edition copy of the play in Special Collections. If you move fast you can peruse it before the movie showing tonight at 6pm at the Goodman Theatre! We’re open until 4:30.
